21-year-old Haridwar man held on charges of kidnapping two children from Delhi NCR and selling them | Dehradun News

HARIDWAR: Police have arrested a 21-year-old man from Haridwar on the charges of kidnapping two children from Delhi NCR and selling them, an officer said on Thursday. Police also rescued the two kids.
The kidnapper, Mushtaq Qadri, who grew up in an orphanage in Delhi, sold the two children in Dehradun and Badaun in Uttar Pradesh.
SSP Haridwar, Ajay Singh, told TOI, “Qadri, a resident of Sirsol Patti in Sitaram Badaun, UP was enrolled in a children’s home in Delhi after his father was murdered when he was five years old. He grew up in the orphanages where he learnt the process of adoption. After coming out from the orphanage, he made fake documents for the child help line and Prayas Children Home Jahangirpuri Delhi.”
“Before lifting children, he approached needy families who wanted to adopt a child. First, he lifted a 20-month-old child from Ghaziabad railway station in June and sold him in Badaun for Rs 8000 after which he stole a one-year-old child abducted from Delhi railway station in September and sold him to a Dehradun-based family for Rs 40,000. Both the children have now been rescued by police.”
Delhi police registered a case after getting a complaint from the Delhi-based child’s parents. The rescued Delhi boy was handed over to his parents in presence of Delhi police, while Haridwar police are searching for parents of the other child from Ghaziabad.
According to police, the accused was living in a rented accommodation in SIDCUL area in Haridwar.
In August, he lured a minor girl at Laksar railway station of Haridwar and allegedly raped her. However, the minor girl did not give any detail about the accused, but police nabbed Qadri after searching CCTV cameras.
Initially, police did not know that he was a child lifter, but after recovery of fake documents and vouchers that were given to the families who adopted the children recovered from his possession police managed to trace the two children.
The accused was produced before a local court.
