Andhra Pradesh: Minorities commission seeks CID probe into waqf land encroachment | Amaravati News

AMARAVATI: The AP Minorities commission has requested the state government to order CID investigation into encroachment of at least 36 waqf properties.
The commission said Waqf Board has failed to protect its properties. “The commission has received 36 complaints in last five months regarding encroachment of waqf properties in different locations. We have referred all the cases to the board and registration department. The board, however, is not acting quickly to save the properties,” said Dr Iqbal Ahmed Khan, chairman, Minorities Commission.
He said he has directed the IG, stamps and registrations, to advise all sub-registrars not to register any land earmarked as waqf property.
Sources in registration department said that Annamayya district collector had reclaimed 162 acres of land encroached following a complaint lodged by local waqf inspector. In fact, the issue is one of the complaints referred by the Minority Commission to the Waqf Board.
Meanwhile, Waqf Board chairman Khader Basha said that the board is the only authority to protect the lands and they were taking all measures to reclaim encroached lands.
