Ponniyin Selvan-1: Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 is creating history ever since its release nearly three weeks ago. While the film is breaking all box office records by becoming the first ever Tamil film to cross Rs 200 crores in Tamil Nadu alone, globally it crossed the Rs 450-crore mark and is now looking at a Rs 475-crore mark worldwide.
PS-1 in most theatres
Most theatres in Tamil Nadu are still screening Ponniyin Selvan-1 while in the international market too it is having a fantastic run.
International market
Ponniyin Selvan-1 surpassed Kamal Haasan’s Vikram in Tamil Nadu and is just behind Rajinikanth’s 2.0 in the international mark.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter and wrote, “#PS1 has crossed the Rs 450 Crs gross mark at the WW Box office. According to #Deadline , #PS1 has grossed US $56 Million [Rs 461 Crs] at the WW Box office till 3rd weekend. #PS1 has surpassed #Vikram to become All-time No.2 Kollywood Grosser WW, jus behind #2Point0 (sic).”
Slow decline
Ponniyin Selvan-1 collections are expected to slowly decline after October 21 when Sivakarthikeyan’s Prince and Karthi’s Sardar release in theatres before Diwali.

Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, said ‘Ponniyin Selvan – 1’ became the first film in the history of Kollywood to achieve Rs 200 crore feat at the box office. “#PonniyinSelvan zooms past ₹200 cr milestone at the TN BO today[17th Day]. First ever film in the history of Kollywood to achieve this gigantic feat,” Manobala Vijayabalan tweeted.
17th day
Vijayabalan said the film crossed Rs 200 mark on its 17th day, becoming the first Tamil film to do so in the history.
