Now, filmmaker Shieladitya Moulik without mentioning anyone’s name has slammed the source of the recent rumour that spread like wildfire since Wednesday midnight and at the same time explained how this current trend of social media numbers is actually destroying real talents.
The ‘Hridpindo’ director has one question to those who appear as social media influencers and transform their social media accounts into portfolios, “How can popularity in an app (Instagram) be a currency for talent?”
He further added, “Nowadays people tell me how many followers they have on Instagram. Apparently that’s the new currency. 1.5 million followers watching you dancing to the tunes of a Spanish song while making pasta?? I mean, that’s all you got? Boasting about a song for 2 million views (under a label that has 1.5 mill followers) is your talent? Roja Janeman didn’t need YouTube dude, come on!”
“These idiots can’t act, create music, evoke emotions. None. Only can count followers. Arre bhai, take selfies, make memes, have fun alright. But that’s it. I do it too. I don’t get how that can be a testimony for your talent? What about the great artists before smartphones? How did they happen? What about introverts who have talents you can’t even fathom. I want to protest this nonsense,” said the director.
Speaking about the rumours about Aindrila’s health condition Shieladitya says, “And about today’s rumour – please don’t do it just because you have extra data on your SIM card bro. This could be someone from your own family tomorrow. And this is not cool at all. Be a little human if you will, please.”
Shieladitya also feels that we are saying ‘content is king’ since 2019 and yet the scenario hasn’t changed in real life, “The idea of an actor who has greater following on social media will be able to give more audience reach is simply stupid. It’s a stupid idea. It’s affecting the actual talents who are deprived of opportunities because of this social media madness. It has to change.”
