US layoffs: Telugus with roles in emerging technology also face the axe | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: It’s not just developers, sales and marketing professionals, or recruiters who have lost jobs in the recent layoffs across the US. Those with emerging tech roles such as data scientist, machine learning engineers and cyber security managers too have faced the burnt, shows the database which was created by individuals to keep track of layoffs.
The same is also evident from LinkedIn as several professionals with such roles are seen sporting ‘Open to Work’ tags on their profiles after their stints at major tech firms came to an end abruptly.
“My time as a data scientist at Twitter came to an end yesterday. Twitter will always be special to me as it is the company that I started my career with. Now, for my next chapter, I am open for work and am actively looking for full-time positions in the fields of #datascience, #machinelearning, and #analytics,” read a LinkedIn post by Harshita V. Another Telugu engineer from New York also confirmed to have lost her job as machine learning engineer in the current round of layoffs.
Techies say that they are now facing competition for jobs, even in startups, as many top companies have laid off thousands of staff – many of them engineers.
“I have some interviews lined up with startups but there is a lot of competition,” said a Telugu techie, living in California, who was recently laid off by Meta. He said that it is unlikely that he will be able to secure a job with a similar pay in the current job market.
In fact, sources in the US said that there are some engineers who are currently stuck in India as they were sacked while on leave and are not able to go back to the US to try looking for another job in the grace period, despite having an H1b visa. Turns out, many working as account managers, communications leads, brand strategists, product designers, among other roles have also faced the axe.
